Looking in

Looking in

I realize this is not the best picture but how could I let an opportunity like this pass by. Our first instinct is to think of Scripture like Proverbs 1:28 which says “they will look for me but will not find me” and think of all who haven’t accepted the salvation God offers. However, how often do we see God pointing us in a specific direction and we refuse to look or we look but do not see. Many times we see the way He wants us to take but refuse to go thinking our way must surely be better. I bet when He said to be like the little children, He didn’t mean in this manner!!

Lord, help me to keep my spiritual eyes open to your directions and my ears open to your Spirit’s whispers.

Where are you?

Where are you?

Some days there just is not enough time in the day to get everything accomplished we desire. Maybe it’s because of this hurried pace, these garden pictures are nudging at my soul. By now many of us have received an email which goes something like this: Why is it two hours in church seems like a long time but two hours on the golf course or in a department store goes by so fast? Why is it we can’t rearrange your schedule when a neighbor needs to talk but we can rearrange your schedule to go to the movies with a friend?  You get the idea.

This picture brings to mind the time God was walking in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day and He calls out to Adam and Eve, “Where are you?” How many times does He call out to us, “Where are you?” and how many times do we say, “In a minute, Lord!” Before we know it the day has passed and the minute is gone to spend with our Father. From Genesis to Revelations, He is crying out to us, “Where are you?” and too many times I’ve responded, “Just a minute, Lord! I’ll be right there!!”

Too many times, we fear He wants us to do something when all He really wants is to just sit and spend some time with us. How many refreshing times we may miss because all to often we say, “Just a minute!”

Secret Garden

Secret Garden

For the last two weeks I was cat-sitting for a friend. One of the really great bonuses of staying there was being able to use her “secret garden”. I call it that because it’s a beautiful spot to spend time with Jesus. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to spend as much time as I would’ve enjoyed. However, the amount of time I was able to take advantage of it, it showed me the importance of having a special place to spend with my Lord. What was different about this place over say, the kitchen table or just anyplace? I think part of it was the surroundings; it took you from the ordinary to the special. It took you to a place where you naturally relaxed and the busyness of the world was left behind.

What you can’t see is on the side of the flowers facing the chair, she had a beautiful cross windchime. The whole surroundings just naturally put one in a meditative mood. It provided such a wonderful place to talk with my Savior, to get fed by Him, to be refreshed by Him. So much so that I am now looking at my motor home or on my patio to see if there is a way to make a “secret garden” for me.

Now I can see why Jesus went to the Garden of Gathsemane so much to talk with his Father. He could have talked with Him anywhere but maybe He was showing us we sometimes need a special place for talking with our Father.

Do you have a special place you can go to meditate and spend some quiet time with just you and your Savior? If so, please tell me about it and what makes it so special?

How many times do we feel our lives is just one balancing act after another? Are we doing God’s will? Am I hearing Him correctly? Is this what He really is asking of me? Is this my mission? Do any of these questions sound familar?  At least weekly, if not daily, I ask myself these questions and always with the same intensity, “Lord, am I doing Your will?”  How many times does He have to remind me, “You of little faith,…why (do) you doubt?”

A few days ago I was listening to Christian radio and heard a speaker say it’s not faith in the midst of doubt but doubt in the midst of faith we have to be watchful of.  One of the most effective methods the enemy can use to stop us in our mission is doubt.

Today, I received an email that asked me if I knew the relationship between my two eyes?  It went on to say, “they blink together, they move together, they cry together, they see things together, and they sleep together….but they never see each other.” As Jesus said to Thomas, “Stop doubting and believe.” And just as quickly, when I read this email I could hear Him saying to me, “Stop doubting and believe. We move together, cry together, see things together, and yes, I AM there when you sleep. We do all things together!!!”

END TO A PERFECT DAY

END TO A PERFECT DAY

Every time I see this picture it fills me with peace. Why? It reminds me of a day spent with my daughter after acquiring my first camera. We spent the day at a nearby lake “playing” with our cameras and having a good time in each other’s company. No longer was it mother/daughter but friend/friend sharing a beautiful day filled with doing what brought us happiness. A kind of day Christ desires to have with us each and every day. The type of day I envision when I read in Isaiah that He will keep me in perfect peace if I only trust in Him.
